Courses offered:
Computer Applications I: (1 Unit)
This introductory class teaches concepts of Microsoft Office applications. Microsoft Word and Excel are the focus for students. This class will prepare students for two Microsoft certification exams: Microsoft Certified Application Specialist: Word and Excel. Office 2007 will be used in this class. PowerPoint will also be covered. Students will learn skills essential to be successful with Word and Excel in a workplace environment. Using the IT Academy, official Microsoft curriculum will be used for this class.
Computer Applications II: (1 Unit) (Coming Fall 2010)
Building on the skills mastered in Computer Applications I students will undertake an in-depth study of databases. Microsoft Office Access will be the focus of the class, with Microsoft SQL Server being used as well. The class will prepare students for the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist Exam for Microsoft Access, and provide a good backbone in the language of SQL. Students will learn advanced database concepts such as normalization and entity-relationship diagrams.
Computer Programming I: (1 Unit) *offered online through NCVPS*
Students will learn the introductory concepts of programming on the Windows desktop using the Microsoft .Net framework. The focus will be on Visual Basic.Net 2008. No prior programming knowledge is required. Concepts covered include: history of programming, the Visual Studio IDE, concepts of object-oriented programming, conditional statements, loops, and arrays. To be successful in this class students should have successfully completed Algebra I.
Computer Programming II: (1 Unit) (Spring 2010 ONLY)
This class ties the database concepts learned in Computer Applications II with the programming concepts learned in Computer Programming I. The focus will be database driven dynamic applications for the web and desktop. More advanced concepts of object-oriented programming will also be covered. Finally, the class will conclude with a unit on Robotics using Microsoft Robotics Studio 2008. From the two programming classes students have the opportunity to certify as a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist in the .Net Framework.
Networking II: Microsoft Windows 7 (Coming Fall 2010) (2 units)
This class will prepare students for the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification specialized in Windows 7. This certification is aimed at network adminstrators at medium to large sized companies who are implementing Windows 7 across their networks. Skills covered include configuring Windows 7, deployment of Windows 7 in a networking enviroment, support and many other features. Upon successful completion of this class students can earn two certifications: MCTS Windows 7, and MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7.
Business Advanced Studies (1 unit)
This culminating course is for seniors who are career focused in accounting and finance, business administration, business management and ownership, information technology, or office systems technology. The three parts of the course include writing a research paper, producing a product, and delivering a presentation. Students demonstrate their abilities to use content and apply knowledge to professional business situations in a selected career. In addition, they will also demonstrate their ability to write, speak, apply knowledge, problem solve, and use life skills such as time management and organization. Students work under the guidance of a teacher-advisor in collaboration with community members, business representatives, and other school-based personnel.
