High Point NC, The Academy at Central, a Guilford County School, is pleased to announce that the Academy has been selected as a Microsoft IT Academy. This will be the first high school Academy in the state of North Carolina and the one of the few in the southeast outside of Florida. The IT Academy offers a chance for students to earn professional Microsoft certifications while still in high school along with the opportunity to earn college credit for the certifications. The Academy will offer programs in Microsoft Office, Database, and the Microsoft .Net Framework through the GCS Career and Technical Education department. The average IT employee who earns .Net certifications earns over $91,000 annually.

The programs will begin in the fall of 2009 and the Academy is currently looking for interested students to join our program. Applications are currently being accepted from rising ninth graders at the Academy office. All interested parties are encouraged to apply for this exciting program. The Academy at Central is a Guilford County magnet school located in High Point, North Carolina. With one hundred four students in grades nine through twelve the Academy provides an early college model which allows students to complete high school in three years while focusing on career based classes in business, culinary, or medical. Academy students choose from two of these pathways while embarking on a rigorous and relevant honors level curriculum. Students take college classes at GTCC their senior year. Academy at Central will test students in February for the first time in Word and Excel. Students who pass will receive the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist certification.
